Question: is Daniel 9:27 talking about a peace treaty with Israel?
It is very clear that Daniel chapter 9 is talking about the nation of Israel who God sent in captivity. For Daniel goes back to the writing of Jeremiah the prophet and, we see this in verse 2 of chapter of "In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
Daniel understand that their were a number of years laid out for the nation of Israel and, when that time period ended Israel would see it's restoration. We know for sure Jeremiah chapter 29 is talking about that 70 weeks of years that God would being dealing with Israel.
Jeremiah 29:10-14 says the following, This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
Since each week is a time period of 7 year those 70 weeks added up to 490 years that Israel would have to pay for the rebellion against the Lord.
So now in Daniel chapter 9 we see that prayer of Daniel concerning those 70 weeks. Daniel knew from Jeremiah that Israel was coming close to the end of that prophecy in Jeremiah and that is why Daniel seeks God about it.
Just as Jeremiah 29 is strictly dealing with the Jews (Israel), we know for sure Daniel chapter 9 is also talking strictly about the time period for the Jews.
In this chapter we have, Daniel's prayer for the restoration of the Jews who were in captivity, in which he confesses sin, and acknowledges the justice of God in their calamities, but pleads God's promises of mercy which he had yet in store for them (v. 1-19). II. An immediate answer sent him by an angel to his prayer, in which, 1. He is assured of the speedy release of the Jews out of their captivity (v. 20-23). And, 2. He is informed concerning the redemption of the world by Jesus Christ (of which that was a type), what should be the nature of it and when it should be accomplished (v. 24-27). And it is the clearest, brightest, prophecy of the Messiah, in all the Old Testament.
When we get to Daniel 9:27 we know that since that chapter deals with Israel we know for sure that covenant that will be confirmed will also involve the Jews (Israel) and many nations. Who are the many in this verse? No doubt it refers to Israel's enemies and events taking place now in Israel shows us that is the case. I believe we are already seeing the beginning of the coming confirmed covenant via the Abraham accords that was started by President Trump.
Now read Daniel 9:27. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
We know for sure the the number of 69 weeks have already be fulfilled and, there is only one week left or if you will 7 years. Take notice that Daniel 9 talks about the Jewish Temple of which the Antichrist will go into a tell the world he is god. So, once again this passage is strictly talking about the nation Israel because we know that temple will be built in Jerusalem.
Daniel 9:24 definitely is addressing the Jews. "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy."
It has become very clear that this coming confirmed covenant is between Israel and many nations who have been Israel's enemies.
And so the Seventieth Week of Daniel focuses future attention on the nation of Israel and the fate the Jews, as God allows His Chosen People to experience one last refining fire which results in a remnant of the nation of Israel who place their faith in Messiah. Daniel 9:27 is the backbone of all prophecy and as such serves as the skeleton on which one can superimpose the events of Revelation 6-19. It follows that the majority of the events of the Revelation are deal with the nation of Israel and not the Church.
