The book The Time Is At Hand was written by Charles Taze Russell, the founder of what later became known as the Jehovah's Witnesses. It was published in 1889 as the second volume of his Millennial Dawn series, which was later renamed Studies in the Scriptures. This series outlined Russell's teachings of biblical prophecy, eschatology (end-times teachings), and theology. In this book as well as many other books by Russell you will find his false prophecies. What he claimed God told him never came to pass. Russell's writings heavily influenced the early beliefs and teachings of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, although many of his specific interpretations and predictions have since been revised or abandoned by Jehovah's Witnesses. Why did the JW leaders make revisions or abandon what Russell said? They had to in order to cover up all his false prophecies. Keep in mind, it wasn't just Russell who was proven to be a false prophet. I want to show you how the Watchtower Society controls their members. The JW leaders tell their members Russell made mistakes. However, God never makes mistakes. The JW organization calls God a liar. All the JW leaders have done is try to cover up their false teachings and false prophecies. Since the early writings of the Watchtower Society not one of their prophecies has come to pass. What you see below is only the tip of the iceberg. If you are a JW member you are following a false religion that Christ warned us about. The book The Time Is At Hand was published by the Watchtower Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) in 1889 as part of their Millennial Dawn series. It contains several prophecies and interpretations of biblical events, many of which later proved to be incorrect. Here are some examples of false prophecies found in the book:
1. Prediction of Christ’s Kingdom in 1914
- Claim: The book strongly stated that the kingdom of God would be fully established on Earth in 1914, marking the end of worldly kingdoms.
- Text Reference: "The 'battle of the great day of God Almighty'... will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth’s present rulership." (The Time Is At Hand, p. 101)
- Outcome and cover up: 1914 did not mark the complete overthrow of earthly governments or the establishment of Christ's kingdom on Earth.
2. End of the Harvest Period in 1914
- Claim: The "harvest" of the church age (the gathering of the faithful) was prophesied to end in 1914.
- Text Reference: “The harvest is a period of forty years; and it began in A.D. 1874 and will end in A.D. 1914.” (The Time Is At Hand, p. 150)
- Outcome: The harvest period did not conclude in 1914, and this this false prophecy had to be abandoned. Members of the JW don't bring this up when new member come in.
3. Resurrection of the Saints in 1878
- Claim: The resurrection of faithful Christians who had died was said to have occurred invisibly in 1878.
- Text Reference: The book refers to 1878 as a key date for the fulfillment of prophecy concerning the resurrection.
- Outcome: This invisible resurrection was unverifiable and later revised to align with new interpretations. Just another way to cover-up the false prophecy.
4. End of the Gentile Times in 1914
- Claim: The book stated that the "Gentile Times" would end in 1914, with dramatic world changes occurring immediately afterward.
- Text Reference: "The Times of the Gentiles are to end in A.D. 1914, and that date will mark the fullest limit of the rule of imperfect men." (The Time Is At Hand, p. 77)
- Outcome: While 1914 was later reinterpreted to mark the beginning of Christ’s "invisible reign," the anticipated dramatic changes did not occur in the way the book said it would.
5. Complete Annihilation of Anarchists and Other Groups by 1914
- Claim: The book predicted that anarchists, socialists, and others opposed to the divine kingdom would be completely overthrown by 1914.
- Text Reference: Various passages discuss the eradication of these groups as part of the end-times events concluding in 1914.
- Outcome: These groups persisted long after 1914. God did not speak to Russell it was God's enemy Satan who did. When 1914 came and went the JW organization changed the date to 1915.
-
End of the World in 1915
- Claim: After 1914 passed, Watch Tower publications suggested the end of the world might occur in 1915.
- Outcome: The world did not end in 1915, and this date was later discarded.
Prophecy about Armageddon in 1925
- Claim: Joseph Franklin Rutherford, Russell’s successor, promoted the belief that biblical patriarchs like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob would be resurrected and that the end would occur in 1925.
- Text Reference: "We may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the faithful prophets of old." (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1920)
- Outcome: 1925 came and went without Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob being resurrected. How many false prophecies does it have to take before a JW would leave this false religion? If you call yourself a Jehovah Witness and you stay in this organization you can not call yourself a true Jehovah Witness. A true Jehovah witness will not put up with any false prophets nor their false prophecies.
The False prophecy of 1975
- Claim: In the 1960s and early 1970s, Watch Tower publications strongly taught that 1975 would mark the end of the 6,000 years of human history and Armageddon.
- Text Reference: "What does this mean? It means... that the remaining time is very short. The six thousand years of man’s existence will soon be up, yes, within this generation!" (Awake!, October 8, 1968)
- Outcome: As with all the previous dates the1975 date also passed without the predicted events, leading to disappointment and significant membership losses.
- Now can you see why the new JW is not told about the past record of the Watchtower organization?
